Here are some pics of my new fishies I added to my 225G yeseterday after 6 wks in QT..
how is the Achilles and where did you get him and what would you recommend as far as keeping them happy! Any tips?! I want to get one eventually!
The Achilles is great. Contrary to what is written, both of my Achilles have been very docile. The one pictured is actually my second one. My Yellow Tang who had a 225G reef all to himself for a year bullied, stressed, and eventually killed my first Achilles because it was the only fish added. This meant it was the only target. I added the second Achilles when I added the large Naso and Dussimer. The Yellow was banished to the sump for a couple of weeks(did the same with the first Achilles) just so the 3 new additions could get comfortable and find a pecking order. I recently had to move my second Achilles to my 40G tank because of my Yellow's aggression again. The Achilles wasn't eating and looking very thin. It is the only fish in the 40G so it was is a relative stress free enviornment. I'll move the Yellow to the 40G after the Achilles fatens back up and is looking more healthy.
The Achilles tends to have a poor longterm survial rate in captivity. This is mainly because they are poor shippers, they're finiky, and they succumb to disease relatively easy. That being said get a healthy specimen. Easier said than done though.. I've never seen a LFS with an Achilles, let alone a healthy one and when you order online you can't see what your buying.
I've ordered the majority of my fish online. I've been very lucky to have received great looking specimens from all my online orders. I ordered the Yellow Tang from liveaquaria.com, and the remainder of the online fish from marinedepotlive.com. Both Achilles have come from marinedepotlive.
Ironicly I wrote an article about the Achilles in the Sept. issue of the DFWMAS newsletter. Here is the link to the article for more information.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
