| I am not sure why it is that the older I get the dumber and more inept I get. I used to be able to things on computers that people never heard of. Now I am on the other end of that stick and it is sooo frustrating.... So, why is now, that I can not figure out what the no-ip thiing is or how it does or why it does, (Actually I got that part of it witht the dynamc vs static ip) But why is it I can not get this to work? I think I have it right on my router, but now I hve been screwing with it all day, I am not sure what I got or what is right... I read and read the faqs on no=ip, andhere, and and everyewhwere I can, but to no help... If I call no-ip I am sure tehy will tell there stuff works, and if I could call here, I am sure you would tell me to contact my router, and my router company will tell me to call you... Ugghh | |

Assuming you have a dynamic IP;
1. Have you setup a dynDNS account or external reference that points to your controller?
2. Can you hit the controller from the web?
3. What do you have in the line for the URL: ?
Your URL should look something like this: "http://135reef.homeip.net/cgi-bin/status.cgi" where in our case, the "135reef.homeip.net" is the dynDNS account that keeps track of our dynamic IP. In other words, if I just enter 135reef.homeip.net at an explorer prompt, it will bring me to the ACIII login from anywhere in the world. The "/cgi-bin/status.cgi" part is the status screen for your controller.

I have a no-ip account.
I cant hit the controller from the web. I can from my lan, but not the web.
and I have http://mytank.monroviamountain.com
And it dont matter about the cgi thing cause I cant get the first part to work yet.

| Bill it looks like your using Verizon as your service provider. I most cases they lock down the ports you can and can't use. The web port f 80 is typically one that is locked down. So in order for it to work in that instance you would have to turn on port forwarding in your router and use a different port i.e. "http://mytank.monrovianmountian.com:8080/cgi-bin/status.cgi"
This is only necessary to reach it from outside your local network. | |

| OKay, here is wehre AI am getting confused.
Noip.com allows me to setup my host to be a web 80 redirect. So, I changed it here to be 8081
But then I go to my router and change the settings on my virtual serviual, (prot forwarding?) to take port 80 stuff and reidrect it to 8081 also.
But really, that should not matter, RIGHT? Cause, according to noip.com, anytime someone types mytank.monroviamountain.com, it will also send it to my puter as 8081 port....
I am soooo confused....
Is there anyway, i can give you access to my noip account so you can take a look or even figure a way for you to look at my router???

| Also, now, when I enter mytank.monroviamountain.com, I get a 404 error. On one occasion last night, I got to my modem configuration page, and not sure how I got there, but I did change something there as well, but now I can not get back there to change it back...
If I type in the www.mytank.monroviamountain.com, it brings up a window that indicates it is trying to 'DIAL' out, and when that does not work, (obviously), it hangs at the error message, until I cancel out of that, and then the toggle under the work offline option has been changed to work offline....

| Bill, open up the noip client and copy out the 'hosts' line.. in my case it's rowerules.zapto.org.
Typically, you end up with a name like
.bounceme.net
or..
.hopto.org
.no-ip.org
.sytes.net
.zapto.org
etc. (You only get to make up the and then you get to choose which of the domains (zapto.org, sytes.net, etc) that it will end with.
Let's make sure you've got that part squared away and work from there. | |

| I have several host names listed on there.
The one I created for this signature deal is mytank.mornoviamountain.com
The domain is not hosted anywhere, and I am not sure if that matters.
I can create another host if you like. let me know the settings I should set.
Or I could just verify the settings I have on teh other hosts.
Or could it be the router settings, | |

} Note location of substring changes depending on version of LH software. The code that Scott presented above I belive is TCL. I guess the question to you is what are you programming in? | |
