| I was recently talking to you guys about getting a reef controller for my 2 month old 90 gal. reef tank when the subject of ORP monitoring and ozone dosing was raised. Do I need to be worrying about ozone at this stage of the game? All that I have equipment wise right now besides my wet/dry is a Coralife 220 protein skimmer and a 100 gal per day RO filter. I also have 2 - 400 watt 10k metal halides with 2 blue actinic and 4 lunar lights. More than enough light, (so my wife has told me.) I have only just recently started to research the subject ozone and have heard some pros and cons. Should I be more worried about other more important equipment? The controller is mainly for the temperature control right now and PH control in the near future. The ORP monitoring capability will more than double the price of the controller that I wanted (From an AC Jr. to an AC III with ORP probe.). I don't want to kick myself later for not getting this ability if it is important. As always, your input would be greatly appreciated. | | |

Was it you that I remember buying a ozone unit off of eBay for cheap? ( as I remember, it was one designed for ozonating drinking water and had an output of something crazy like 400mg/hr) If so, how did it work out for you? It may have been someone else, but I thought it was you.

 | | 07-01-2007 7:40 AM | | I purchased a unit similar to this one- http://cgi.ebay.com/New-400mg-Ozone...dZViewItemOut of the box, the unit I bought doesn't start producing ozone when power is applied. You had to hit 'on'. Well, when I opened it up, I noticed that the timer could be bypassed by hooking the ozone generator transformer directly to the incoming power. Two wire nuts later, and I had an ozone unit that would run as long as power was applied. I put an x-10 module on the power line, and I was ready to go. Then I ran the output to an ozone port on my AquaC EV-240, put some GAC in the air output of my skimmer collection cup, and programmed my AC II with set points for coming on and off. | | | |

 | | 10-05-2009 3:03 PM | | How low does it drop after cleaning? I clean mine once or twice a week with a soft bristled paintbrush, it drops like a rock after a cleaning and will take from hours to 2 days to come back up. Chances are your ORP is much lower than you think. If it's taking weeks to come back up the probe is probably getting dirty during this time and giving you false readings. Ive found ORP probes need constant cleaning to give you a proper reading. | | | |

 | | 10-05-2009 3:20 PM | | Nah.. my sump is rather dark (separate fuge) so it's tube worms growing on the probe that I have to clean off. I've used others' probes to compare, so I know mine's close to spot on. | | | |
