| First of all thanks for this nice application to create a signature.
I tried it out with my RK LITE and NET module and it grabs the RSS pretty well.
Unfortunately I don't get the image background to work.
I created a .png in Fireworks and in Photoshop and saved it as 8 bit as mentioned in the tutorial.
My image has a black background and for some reason when I upload it doesn't show up as a black but more a greenish blue background.
Even tried out to save it then as a 24 bit but it gives me the same result.
What could I be doing wrong?
Thanks for any help
Michael |

 | | 02-01-2010 6:05 AM | | Thanks for you quick reply.... I did the png 24 now and still not working. First I thought it might have been a fireworks issue and therefore I processed it with CS3 but same result I attched the pic I am using here Michael |

 | | 02-01-2010 6:36 AM | | There have been some hinky issues with transparent backgrounds that I haven't been able to chase down (this is deeeeep into image file formats, and that's uncharted waters for me.) Let me explore more. |

I am just surprised I see a lot of sig's with nice background pictures and don't understand how they got it to work...
Mine has no a "transparent" background but a solid black one as you can see. |

 | | 02-01-2010 9:46 AM | | Okay, I'll admit it, I'm stumped.. I've tried saving your image as png-24, png-8, with transparency, without, with dithering, without, web pallette, indexed color, etc etc etc etc (and various combinations thereof)..

 | | 02-01-2010 3:19 PM | | Well, on further tinkering, I know it has something to do with alpha blending.. I turned off some of the alpha font blending, and your background works now.. but it made the font on some other sigs very crisp and not smooth. |

 | | 02-01-2010 3:25 PM | | Thank you so much for getting this to work. Really appreciate it!!! If I understand you well you didn't had to alter my picture but instead your script to make this work? |

 | | 02-01-2010 3:31 PM | | Yes and no.. I'm still hunting down the issue.. If I take your image and open it in photoshop, create a layer below the background, and cut out the blank area to the side, fill with a different color- ithat works.
It's as though it doesn't like the transparent black background (which it actually is- not a black fill, but a black background.)
Still messing with it- the crispness of the fonts just doesn't look quite right. |

 | | 02-01-2010 3:47 PM | | Can you recreate the image with a background that's not perfectly black? Try an RGB of 1,0,0. |

 | | 02-01-2010 4:48 PM | | Hrmm.. it still comes up as that color being the transparent alpha bit.. try starting with a white background, filling an intermediate layer with black, and the image on top. |

 | | 02-01-2010 5:02 PM | | Nope, same deal.. do you have a psd version of this file that I could fiddle with? If so, I'll shoot you my email address so that you can send it to me. |

 | | 02-01-2010 6:17 PM | | Michael, check your email..
For anyone who stumbles onto this problem- here's how we fixed it, but danged if I know _why_ this worked.. I saved the psd as a jpg, opened the jpg, then saved as png-24, no interlacing, no transparency.. it's as though there was hidden channel data or alpha blending set, that we could NOT get rid of. |

 | | 02-21-2010 10:38 AM | | Try saving as a jpeg, then back to png-24. I noticed one of the files you uploaded actually wasn't a png, just an image renamed to png. |

 | | 02-21-2010 12:23 PM | | Yes I forgot about the "save for web" option so I wasn't saving it right at first! But I did try saving it to jpeg and resaving it to png-24, I tried png 24 and 8 but to no luck..Im using Photoshop Elements so idk if this will make a difference. |
